How it works
Six steps, from first chat to new smile.
Consultation and smile design
We look at your teeth, listen to what bothers you and plan the shape, length and shade together using digital scanning and smile design — so you know what to expect before we start.
Whiten first, if you want to
Composite cannot be whitened afterwards, so if you want brighter teeth we do that first. The bonding is then matched to your final shade rather than your starting one.
Shade matching
We choose the composite shades against your surrounding teeth so the bonded teeth blend in rather than stand out.
Preparing the surface
The tooth surface is gently conditioned so the resin grips it. There is usually no drilling and no numbing, and no healthy enamel is removed.
Building and sculpting
Tooth-coloured resin is applied and shaped by hand, then set hard with a curing light. We build up in layers until the shape, length and symmetry are right.
Polish and bite check
We finish with a high polish, check your bite and talk you through how to look after the bonding — all within the same appointment.

Priced per tooth, with ways to spread it.
You pay for the teeth you treat, so you can start with the ones that bother you most or do the whole front of your smile. You will have the price in writing before we begin.

Bonding handles well
- Chipped, worn or uneven tooth edges
- Small gaps between teeth
- Short, small or misshapen teeth
- Mild staining that whitening cannot shift
Your teeth and gums need to be healthy first — there is no sense bonding over untreated decay. We check that at your first appointment.
Another option may serve you better
- Significantly crowded or crooked teeth, where straightening first gives a better result
- Large areas of damage or very heavily restored teeth
- Teeth you want to last decades rather than years
- Heavy grinding that has not been managed, which can chip any restoration
We would rather tell you at the consultation than bond something that will not last. Often Invisalign® first, then bonding to finish, gives the best result.

Does composite bonding damage your teeth?
No. Composite bonding is additive — the material is shaped onto the existing tooth, with little or no drilling, which means it is reversible. That is the main difference from porcelain veneers, which require permanent enamel removal.
How long does composite bonding last?
Typically 4 to 7 years with good care. It can chip or stain over time, particularly with heavy coffee, red wine or smoking, and it can be polished, repaired or replaced without harming the tooth underneath.
Can you whiten composite bonding?
No — whitening gel lifts stains from natural enamel, not from composite. That is why we whiten first and bond afterwards, so the new material is matched to your final shade rather than your starting one.
